Is first-class the right tier for me?
If you want a comfortable Galapagos cruise with ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning, certified guides, and varied island access — without paying the premium for gourmet menus and butler service — first-class is the right tier. Most first-time Galapagos travelers book here. Honeymooners, couples, and families especially.
How is first-class different from budget?
First-class boats are newer (most under 10 years old), have larger cabins with private balconies or panoramic windows, better climate control, and reach more islands including the western archipelago. Budget boats are smaller, older, and run shorter itineraries focused on the central islands.
How long should the cruise be?
5-day cruises cover central islands; 8-day cruises add the western islands (Isabela, Fernandina) and northern islands (Genovesa, Bartolome). For first-time travelers we recommend 8 days. For travelers combining Galapagos with mainland Ecuador, 5 days works well.
When is the best time to go?
There is no bad season. December through May: warmer water, calmer seas, active mating displays. June through November: cooler water, more nutrients, larger marine life concentrations. Waved albatross on Espanola: April through December only. Hammerhead sharks: cooler season.
What’s NOT included?
Galapagos National Park entrance fee ($200 USD, paid at airport), Transit Control Card ($20 USD), gratuities for crew and guide (typically $10-15 per day per passenger), flights to/from Galapagos airports ($350-500 USD round-trip from Quito or Guayaquil), and alcoholic beverages on most vessels.
Can you bundle the full Ecuador trip?
Yes. As part of CarpeDM Adventures, we coordinate pre-cruise hotel nights in Quito Old Town, day tours (Cotopaxi, Quilotoa, Mindo, Otavalo), post-cruise Cuyabeno Amazon extensions, and high-altitude climbing through our Climb Ecuador partnership. Most travelers add at least one of these.
